When planning Redman Vineyard in 2004 Cathy and Bill wanted a Chardonnay. Decision made: plant Dijon clone 76 and source more mature Dijon clone 96 from an Oregon Vineyard. As the Redman Vineyard clone 76 was maturing, we sourced in clone 96 grapes, 12 year old vines, from the Crawford Beck Vineyard in Amity, Oregon. Redman Wines produced the single clone 96 Chardonnay in 2007, 2008 and will continue to do so in 2009 and 2010.
Redman Vineyard harvest 2009 brought great joy with 1.38 tons Dijon clone 76 Chardonnay harvested on September 21, 2009. At Adelshiem Vineyards; Dave Paige, winemaker, immediately pressed the Chardonnay and aged it in stainless steel tanks for five months. At the same time Adelsheim is producing the Redman Wines Chardonnay from the Crawford Beck Vineyard……. the blending process fulfilled the Redman dream to produce a Chardonnay blend with Dijon clones 76 and 96.

The 2009 Calita Cait Chardonnay blend is 78% Dijon-clone 76 from the Redman Vineyard, 16% Dijon-clone 96 hard press with 6% Dijon-clone 96 from the Crawford Beck Vineyard.
On April 16, 2010, at Adelsheim Vineyards, we bottled 83 cases with screw-caps, 13.8% alcohol.
TASTING NOTES:
This rich, refreshing wine features fruit components ~ citrus blossom, lime, grapefruit, orange and honey suckle. The wine has lively acidity, minerality and a creamy texture. This 2009 Chardonnay is perfect for your summertime enjoyment. Serve this dry, crisp Chardonnay slightly chilled. |
Calita Cait is named after CAthy, LIsa, TAmi (my daughters) and CAITlyn (my granddaughter). The feminine influence for Redman Wines!
