2013 ~ Youthful, with immediate spices of cinnamon, baking spices and nutmeg. Mouth is juicy with lavender flavors and forest scent. Lovely acidity. Lean and pure!

The 2013 Vintage will be remembered for its weather extremes: consistently warmer than any growing season in memory from March until mid-September; and then, concentrated wet for a ten-day period. Between September 22nd and October 2nd, there were 5.34 inches of rain recorded. Fortunately, Ribbon Ridge being a breezy area, we did not notice the rain as much as the lower valley vineyards.

Redman Vineyard had BUD BREAK on April 10th and BLOOM started on June 3rd. Veraison began August 10th and lasted and delighted our guests through Labor Day Open House. The positive warm weather was responsible for harvest starting 2 - 3 weeks early. Beautiful sunshine greeted the first harvest in the Redman Vineyard on Thursday, September 19 with picking of Pinot Noir clones 115 and 114, this is our most south east blocks and consistently ripen before any other blocks. Second picking was on Friday, September 27 in very light rain the pickers harvested our most reserve blocks planted in 2005, the Pinot Noir clones 667, 777 and Pommard. We harvested the Pinot Blanc, Chardonnay and Pinot Noir clones; Pommard and 115 on Friday, October 4. Final picking was a sunny glorious Sunday, October 6th, harvested the Pinot Noir clone 828 and the Italian grape; Arneis.

Warm weather brought the 2013 vintage crop to rapid ripeness, reaching brix (sugar levels) count to 22, 23 & 24 very early. With this early ripening we thought acidity would be low, however acidity was measured around 3.4 ~ very nice! Yields were better than expected.

2013 is a good, early SOLID year!!
